NEW PLYMOUTH this day. I Obituary: Mrs. Parris, relict of the late ; Major Parris, aged 91 years.
DUNEDTN, Tuesday. On the arrival of the express from Christchurch, Detectives Conolly and Mitchell arrested a young woman named Lilian McMahon on the charge of stealing £69 in gold and notes, the property of Mrs. Catherine Buckley, a boardinghouse-keeper at Lyttelton. GORE, Tuesday. A public meeting, held last night, affirmed the desirableness of providing a hospital for Gore, and appointed a subcommittee to canvass for funds. There is £200 in hand, and it is estimated that £700, with the Government subsidy, will provide the building. OAMARTJ, Tuesday. No less than 330 applicants from all parts of the colony are seeking sections on the Waitaki Plains Estate. Appli- i cants were being examined to-day by the Land Board, and £30,000 has been taken here alone in deposits. Those applying are a very good stamp of settler. , There are 77 applicants for the homestead block, and for one oi the smaller sections. HOEITIKA Tuesday. A dwellinghouse, owned" by Mr W. Whitten, and occupied by Mr A. D. MacFarlane, was completely gutted by fire this evening. There is no insurance on the house. The insurance on Mr MaeFarlane's furniture, etc, was £250 in "the-State Office and £130 in the Manchester. Total loss. WOODVTLLE, this day.
