STATEMENTS BY RELIGIOUS LEADERS.

LONDON, April 10. Mr C. F. Ma'sterman (Liberal), M.P. for West Ham, says that the Education Bill will rekindle the religious fires. The Eev. Dr. Clifford is gratified, but not satisfied, with the BilL He condemns the four-fifths clause. Archdeacon Sinclair (St. Paul's) and the Archbishop of York maKe the best of the Bill, but the "Times" requires a radical amendment The "Daily News" (Liberal) say 3 that if Churchmen refuse to compromise they will be given no second choice. The "Westminster Gazette" and the great majority of Liberal members of the House of Commons generally appear to approve of the measure. The "Manchester Guardian" (Liberal) declares that it is a thoroughly tolerant measure. '•The Scotsman" (Unionist) says that the Bill ought to be entitled "A Bill for the State Endowment of Nonconformity." "Mr W. T. Stead, editor of the "Review of Beviews," a Liberal and Nonconformist, thinks that the four-fifths clause ought to meet the needs of Roman. Catholics and Jews, but that it will probably "go hard with the Anglicans."
