IMPORTANT TO IMPORTERS.
A matter of considerable importance to importers of potatoes and apples is dealt with in an Order-in-Council of the 12th of March, and gazetted on the 22nd of last month. The Orchard and Garden Pests Act, 1903, provides that.the Governor may from time to time, by Order-in-Council, prohibit absolutely the introduction into New Zealand of any plant, fruit, fungus, parasite, insect, or other thing which in his opinion is likely to introduce disease. His Excellency the Governor, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, his absolutely prohibited the introduction into New Zealand of any fruitf infected with the apple-scab or blackspot (Fusicladium dendriticum), or any potatoes or tomatoes affected by the Irish' disease Nor late blight (Phytophtbora infestani), or in or on which any such disease is or has been present in any fomi or stage of development; and if any fruit or plant prohibited is introduced into New_Zealand it shall be dealt with, together with any package containing the same, in the manner provided by section nine of the said Act with respect to plants and other things unlawfully introduced into New No further action will be taken- by the Department this week, so as to afford time for notification to importers.
