The Auckland Orchestral Society announce their first concert of the season for Thursday evening, in the Choral Hall. A good orchestral programme will be rendered. The society will be assisted by Madame Chambers. A man named William Home, employed by Mr. Keenan, cab- proprietor, ■was brought before Messrs. Allsworth and Stoape, at Onehunga, this morning, charged with being drunk while in charge of a horse and Vehicle./ It appeared that the defendant escaped what might have been a very serious accident through the promptness of a tramear motornian in applying the emergency brake. Sergt. Twomey detailed the circumstances, and Home was sentenced to one months imprisonment ■with hard labour, without the option of a fine. 'Fne "Deneh remarked that Home might consider himself ■ exceedingly unck'r the circumstances.
