LAWN TENNIS.

To-day the last round of the series of inter-club matches will be played. West EndLplay meet Auckland, and Eden and Epsom play Onehunga. The banner was won by the Eden and Epsom Club last season, and it is now practically decided that they retain it for another year. The West end Club take next position. The third place largely depends on the result of to-day's matches. The Parnell, Auckland and Devonport Clubs are separated by a few points only, and the match between the former two clubs should be very close and interesting.

It was generally considered that the Taranaki team would beat our representatives. This proved correct, though the margin was not a large one. The Auckland ladies did very well, winning the greater number of their matches. Miss Rice played exceedingly well in both her matches, especially so in the Ladies' Doubles. The victory of Misses Gray and Rice over Mrs Payne and Miss Powdrell was a very creditable one.

Dr. Keith defeated Wallace two sets straight, and when it is considered that Wallace is credited with being —if not the best—one of the best double players in the colony, and a better player than Dickie, there is every reason to believe that the Taranaki players were surprised at his defeat.

Upton played Griflitlis on Monday last, and justified his inclusion in the team. Playing brilliantly and accurately throughout, he beat Griffiths very, easily —in fact, he couldn't go wrong. t

Miss Powdrell has not yet returned to Taranaki She has been playing during tbe week at the different club lawns-
