BOWLING.

At least one club ia leaving no stone unturned in the effort to win the inter-club pennant competition. Though Auckland played Grey Lyun on Saturday, the newformed club had to face a very strong combination, practically the pick of Auckland members, and Grey Lynn was fortunate in getting off with a 34-point loss. Auckland leads in the competition, as it so frequently did in the old pennant contest.

A Provincial Bowling Association is being formed in Wellington. This will considerably strengthen the movement, apparently latent at present, for the combination of all bowling associations under a New Zealand association. The existence of a governing body for each island indicates a stand-off feeling quite out of accord with the real sentiment prevailing in bowling circles.

The Auckland country clubs have taken advantage of the special inducements offered to compete in the Easter tournament, which commence". on Saturday, April 14th, at 1 p.m. Whangarei will send three teams, and Skipper McFarlane, of Rotorua, intends to put Auckland bowlers on their mettle with his champion four. The tournament will be continued on the following Monday at 9 a-m., and entries close at the Sports Club on the evening of March 28th.

The reason for not taking tournament entries later than Wednesday next is to give the Association an opportunity of arranging a pairs match if sufficient rinks are available when rinks have been allotted for the fours matches. Owing to the limited green accommodation, each club will only be able to play two teams for' the champion fours, which will be arranged in sections, the final to be played on the second day.

An attractive feature of the Easter tournament will be an invitation fours' competition, played on the "sudden death" principle, it will be open to all bowlers who are members of a club affiliated to the Auckland Provincial Bowling Association.

The inter-club pennant competition stood as follows afteT Saturday's games:

Matches Played. Lost. Won. Auckland 6 0 6 Ponsonby 5 14 Devonport 5 2 3 Carlton 5 2 3 Mount Eden 8 3 8 Oneb Tinea ~ B 3 2 Rocky Xot._i._... 8 4 2 SS*.9fc& % . LuJL
