A serious accident occurred this morning about 9 o'clock to a single man named W. Lentfer, residing in Newton - read, and an employee of Messrs W. and G. Winstone. He was in charge of three-horse waggon, and was coming down Upper Queen-street when, in front of Wigg's Laundry, his foot caught in the ratchet brake, with the result that he was precipitated on to his head on the roadway. The blow was a severe one, and as soon as Mr Winstone arrived he arranged for the man to be taken to the Hospital in the ambulance van. It was then found that Lentfer was suffering from concussion of the brain. Upon inquiry at the hospital shortly before three o'clock this afternoon it was reported that Lentfer had regained consciousness. He stated that his foot caught in the brake as he was jumping from the waggon.
