THE POLITICAL CAMPAIGN.

MR. FARRELL AT GREY LYNN. Mr J. Parr ell, the Opposition candidate for the Grey Lynn seat, addressed a large meeting of electors in the St. George's Hall, Grey Lynn, last evening. -Mr R. T. Warnock presided. The candidate announced himself as a Liberal and a member of the reform party led by Mr Massey. The fight was between tbe two great Liberal parties of the dfty and the object of the Opposition was not so much to oust the present Government as to keep it up to the mark, in the matter of administration. Without minimising the progress which had undoubtedly been made during the last ten years, he considered the Government should not take credit for it all. The increased demand in the Old Country had had a lot to do with it. Mr larrell Went on to strongly criticise the apportionment of public moneys, chiefly with regard to railway extension in the North and South of the colony. Turning to the land question he announced himself as a freeholder, which he said was a fair, straight forward British principle. The benefit of the leasehold was in allowing poor men to @st oh the land, but once established, the Ei t .lev should be given the right to acquire the freehold. He was in favour of all degress of education being placed within the reach of everyone. He advocated the election of Legislative Council by the people, considered the establishment of a Civil Service Board necessary, and expressed himself in favour of every encouragement being given to push forward local industries. On the licensing question Mr Farrell said the Government had Wisely left the issue clear and in the hands of the people. At the conclusion of the address, a large number of questions were answered, and a vote of thanks . and confidence in the candidate was unanimously carried on the motion of Mr W. W. Dumper, seconded by Mr A. Donald. THE LIST OF CANDIDATES.
