THE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP.
SECOND DAY. Yesterday afternoon the second round of the New Zealand Amateur Golf Championship was played on the Maungakiekie links, under rather better cont'it.ons than in the morning. Mr A. H. Fisher (present champion). Mr K. Tareha (exehajnpion) and Mr J. C. Burns (Auckland champion) won their matches and got into The third round, which was being played this afternoon. There were close finishes between Messrs A. Duncan and Bid well, ami Messrs K. Duncan and Heather. In the former match the score was all square at the 17th hole, and Duncan won the match one up; and K. Diini-an in the lalf.-r got the match with his last stroke. The scores were: XEW ZEALAND CHAMPIOKSHIP. SECOND KOI ND. Gould v. Wilson (scratched), a bye. Burns beat Gillies. :i up and to play. A. Duncan beat Bidwcll, 1 up at the 18th. Harold beat. Wood. 6 up and 5 to play. Tareha. beat Kawhi, 5 up aad 4 to play. K. Duncan beat Heather, 1 up. Fisher beat Borthwiu-;, :_! up and 2 to play. Gordon beat Gilfillan. f> up and 5 to play. THIRD ROUND. In the fourth round Gould played A. Duncan played Harold, Tareha played K. Duncan, and Fisher played Gordon, but the result* were not available when we went to press. Tho fourth round will be played to-morrow, and the final on Friday. THE BOGEY HANDICAP. This morniiijr Hip match against the redoubtable Colonel Bogoy was played, and most of the players failed to master the arch enemy. The course was much better than on the previous day. owing to the. drying. ..effect.. of the wind.
