THE AUSTRALIAN MAILS.
MELBOURNE, April 7. The Postmaster-General had another prolonged interview to-day with Mr. Anderson, the Orient Company's manager. Afterwards the Postmaster-General announced that a certain understanding had been come to in connection with the mails, and that Mr. .anderson will cable particulars at once to the directors in London, and expects a reply to-morrow. If that reply is favourable, the contract will be got ready for signature without delay. (Received 10.7 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The Postmaster-General states that as the result of the conferences with Mr. Mills, the Vancouver service has been extended for three months, pending further consideration as to proposed changes.
