NELSON MUNICIPAL SQUABBLES.
<By Telegraph.—Press Association.) - KELSON, this day. The Mayor has made several efforts to dispossess the city engineer, Mr. Heirderson, of his position, but hitherto has failed. Now a minority of the Finance Committee recommend the Council to abolish the office of city surveyor, give the present incumbent three months notice, and place the department under the charge of a foreman. They further suggest other drastic retrenchments in the fitting shop and other departments. It is unlikely that the proposals will be carried, but the constant friction and uncertainty is militating against progress in various directions. Strong feeling exists among a section of the citizens, and an indignation meeting is spoken of with the object of giving finality to the situation as between the Mayor and certain of the councillors and the city surveyor. A special meeting of the Council will be held to-night. '
