AN EXTENSIVE BUSH FIRE.
ARMIDALE (N.S.W.), January 12. A terrible bush flre raged yesterday north of Annidale, extending from Herbert Park to Mclntyre Flat, about 15 miles in extent. The police went out, and assisted the settlers to save their property. There were many narrow escapes of homesteads being burnt down. Charlston's place, four miles from Aγmidale. was saved after a great fight, with the assistance of the Armidale Fire Brigade. The fire reached to within six feet of a barn containing 50 tons of hay. which was saved. The fire is still burning. The police have gone out this morning to render further assistance. It is the largest bush fire which has occurred here for many years, the loug. dry grass carrying the flames with marvellous rapidity. The damage to fencing is very great. The country side is a blackened mass.
