SUPPORT TO LOCAL INDUSTRIES.
■ The following letter was addressed by the manager of the Northern Roller Milling Company to the Chairman of the Charitable Aid "Board:—"Dear Sir, —We shall esteem it a great favour if you will kindly give the local Hour and oatmeal the preference when deciding the tenders, as we are under the impression there is at present a tendency towards the Southern Trust's products. We employ 00 hands, and u~e only local coal for* steam purposes, which also gives a large amount of labour iv winning, and sea and land freights, without mentioning the Northern wheat we buy. We also contribute annually in charitable rates the sum of £20, so in view of the foregoing facts we may aptly say 'Charity -should begin at home,' by using only 'Champion' flour and 'Standard' rolled oats and oatmeal." Thanking you in anticipation.—We remain, yours truly, P. Virtue. Manager.' 1 To this the following reply has been returned:—"Dear Sir,—l am directed to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 19th ultimo, and to reply that when tenders are again invited for supplies, which will not occur until June next your remarks re preference to local "products will receive due consideration. —I am. yours truly, H. N. Garland, Secretary." _■_
