Through a mishap, the launch Vita, belonging to the Raglan Launch Company, was set on fire near the old wharf recently. Some vapour from spilled benzine had caught fire, and Mr *E. Ltngley. the man in charge, accidently disconnect ed a pipe which allowed more of th ■ inflammable spirit to escape. The launch wae instantly ablaze, and but for the prompt action of the persons in the vicinity it would have been destroyed. The spectators jumped into th.» water and partially capsized the small craft, thus putting out the flames before much damage had been done. Mr Langley, however, was severely burned about the hanria.
