HEAT IN AUSTRALIA.
FURTHER BUSH FIRES. ',Bt Cable.—Press Association.—Copyfljht.« MELBOURNE, January 14. Bosh fires have swept the country for fifty miles around Ballarat. Great damage has been done to crops in the Clarendon, Lai Lai, Smeaton, Clunes and Macedon districts. There have been three deaths from heat apoplexy. In the Bendigo district the thermometer registered 114 in the shade yesterday, and tires are devastating the country. ADELAIDE, January 14. The heat is so great here that the locomotive workshops have been closed until a cool change comes. One of the workmen has died of heat apoplexy. MELBOURNE, January 15. The reports of intense heat and bush tires continue to come to hand from the country districts. Several more deaths from heat apoplexy have occurred. Several bridges have been burned. The Trewella property at Streaton, and the Blythevale and Emu stations have been swept of grass. Hundreds of sheep and miles of fencing have been destroyed. A COOL CHANGE. (Received 9.34 ajn.) MELBOURNE, this day. The heat wave has broken, and a cool change, with light rain, is fairly general.
