m NORTH SHORE SAILING RACES. A very iuter-esting series of races In connection with the North Shore Yacht Club was sailed on Saturday lv a j;ood southwesterly breeze. In the race for yachts not exceeding 27ft 1.w.1., the course was 1U miles lons, being from the llagship, near Calliope Dock. round hist buoy round North Htad. keeping outside Sandspit ouoy, rhencu round mark boat in Hobson Bay, thence round mark boat off Queeu-sr. wharf, thence lnsrde outer buoy off Calliope Dock, to starrlng Hue. Twite rouud. The race was splendidly contested throughout, resulting in a win on time allowance for Wairiki, with the Janet second. The finishes wore: Wairiki (scratch), 5h oni 30s: Walrere (3m), 5h 11m :255; Janet (6m), 5h lorn 30; Viola (Dm), Oh 14m ss; lolanthe dim), uh 30m 2s. The finish in the race for tuck stern centreboard yachts, not exceeding :.'6ft, was: Okere (scratch), !>u 25m 40s; Emerald (scratch), Sh 30m Is; Mystery (4m), Oh 45m 2y=. The North Shore Rowing Club's trial fours, for trophies presented by the vicepresident. Mr F. H. Tiling (president) acted as Judge in jan efficient manner, as did Mr W. Swin- . nerton,- the starter. The thanks of the club are due to Messrs Holland and Earle, who placed their line launch, Rehntai, at the disposal of the committee. Gexrard's crew won the first heat. In the second, Yeoland's crew beat G. Cardno'« and H. H. Bay ley's crew after a good finish, while to the third heat. E. Madden*s beat .1. P. Gerrard's by naif a length, G. Carter's being another half length behind. G. C. Wynyatd's crew won the fourth heat after a close finish, and the final between the four crews was quite exciting. The boats were together until 50 yards from the finish, when Maddens and Yeoland's crews spurted, the latter whining by a great effort, just half a length ahead of Maddens. Wynyard's crew being third, a length behind. The winning crew consisted of B. eoland, N. Smith, M. Harrison, H. G-rubb, and A. McDonald (coi). During the afternoon Mr Dick Cavlll, world's champion swimmer, gave an interesting exhibition of fancy swimming and diving. ST. GEORGE'S ROWING CLTJB. The third set of trial fours for trophies presented by Dr. F. W. Gordon, vicecommodore of the St. George's Rowing Club, were successfully brought off on Saturday afternoon.' when a number of visitors and members were entertained at the club house by the Ladies' Committee, the Misses Bach, Slater. Brassey, English, Hay (2), E. Hay. and Newman. Crews from West End, Waitemata, and Auckland Rowing Clnbs paid a visit during the afternoon. The results were as follows:—First beat: T. Stone's crew. Second heat: E. Stone's crew. Third heat: T. Richards' crew. The final was won by E. Stone (stroke), B. S. Finn (3). R. Laurie (2). C. Baslev (bow): second, T. Stone (stroke), E. Nooniu (3). H. Brassey (2), L. Stnbbs(bow). E. Stone beat T. Stone by a bare length, Richards lying close, thiid. Mr Thomas Russell (commodore) acted as starter, and Mr W. S. Whitley as judge. MANUKAU YACHT CLTJB. The sailing races connected with the Mnnnkau Yacht Clalb have excited considerable interest, and a great fight is expected iv the final for the championship cnp. On Saturday there was a close race in a good breeze, the starters being: Ngaroma, scratch; Maka Malle, 8m; Moa, 12m; Pastime, 15m; Elsie, 15m; Ahna, 20m; May Bee, 30m; Ida, 33m: Endeavour, 36m; Unknown, 36m; Spray, 39m; Myrtle, I 39m; Mascotte, 40m; Mavis, 43m: Petrel, 46m. The result was a win for Spray, with May Bee second, and Maka Malle third.
