William Watkins walked into the Auckland watch-house this morning to give himself up upon a charge dated nine years ago, when lie was alleged to have committed rape upon a child of six at K.-%ihu. The accused, according to Chief Detective Marsack, had been to Australia, and knowing that the police were af- ! ter him when he came back to New Zeaj land, he gave himself up. A week's re- ! mand was necessary in the case, and, seeing that Watkins had given himself un he would not object to bail. The accused was remanded, and allowed bail in a personal surety of £100, with, two othars of j£fiO •*_..
