It is understood in Tokio that another great battle has begun at the centra of the respective armies. There are indications that General Suropatkiii has transferred a portion of the forces on his eastern divisions to bis western positions. The telegrams from Mukden and Harbin which were oabled yesterday are not mentioned in the official despatches. The Times surmises that they are intended for consumption in Russia. It is reported that General Knropathin has received twenty thousand Russian reinforcements from Kirin, while Field-Marshal Oyama has received a •whole brigade from Niu-chwang. A detachment of Russian infantry defeated several Japanese battalions on Monday, the Japanese only saving their guns by enormous losses.
