AUSTRAL GUARDS.

(To thr Editor.) Sir, —May I be permitted to endorse the somewhat kindly remarks of "Musicus"' with reference to the above band. We have certainly had a very decent band in our midst, the playing of which is. to say the least, commei-dable. What a pity such a combination is disbanding. One can understand an organisation like the Salvation Army forming and fully equipping a body of young men similar to this; but is it not a serious waste of money to do so when the band only exists for 12 months? I do, indeed, think so. One correspondent states that several of the men are staying in Auckland. What a elianee for some of our bands to get a few good reliable men ? Or shall Igo so far as to say, what an opportunity to form a first-class band should the question be taken up? In our midst are quite a number of fine players who are not identified with any particular band. If somebody would take the matter up it wouldn't be long before we would have in our midst not only a band as good as the "Guards." but infinitely better. This question is worthy of some little consideration, I feel sure.—l am, etc--8.8.
