AUCKLAND AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

An ordinary meeting of the Auckland Agr'eultural and Pastoral Association was held this afternoon in the society's rooms, Queen-street. Mr J. R ; Walters presided over the meeting, which was ■•veil attended. Mr N. Lpwenburg wrote with regard to the establishment of the sugar bet>l. industry in the North of New Zealand, and stated that a 30O'J-acre plantation of sugar beet made up out of individual 5, 10 and ilO-acre small plantations would sufficiently induce capital to establish the sug:r-bp«t industry in the North of this colony. The writer said the area would have to be guiranteed against tie title of land for 25 or 3Q years as well as othsr condition? which he specified. The letter was received, and it was agreed that the ccvnmim'ration be sent to the Waikato .A.M.P. Society. A letter was received from the Dunedin Agricultural and , Pastoral Society, stating that it had been resolved, with a view to perp?tuatirg the mptnery of the late Mr Thomas BrydoDe who had done so much towards fostering the agricultural, dairying and frozen meat industries of New Zealand, that stepe be at once taken to organ'se a movement- for the purpose of raising £1000, to provide a Thomas Brydone Scholarship for Lincoln College, for the best all-round student in his fimt y?ar, to be held for one year only. Th»» Dunedin branch asked for the approval of. the Auckland Society and their taking the necessary steps to collect subscriptions. It was mentioned that Northern students siuding at the Lincoln College hr-d the'r fares paid by thp college officials both ways, once every year. It was" thought, that the movement was a good one, and that no man.deserved to hay« his memory per- ! petuated more th*n the late Mr Brydone. It was resolved that the society desire to express their approval of the proposal, hut before going furI ther they would like to hare fuller parj ticulars as to how it is to work out.
