PORT ARTHUR.
REPORTED MINE EXPLOSION. JAPANESE COLUMN BLOWN UP. GARRISON MUCH DISHEARTENED. (Received 7.40 a.m.) LONDON, September 9. The Port ArtL.ur journal Novy Krai, which hai been issued in a reduced form throughout' the war, states that an electric land mine in the vicinity of Fort Arthur blew up beneath a Japanese column of TOO mem who 'were marchinc in the ▼alley in which the mine had been laid. According: to this paper's account very few of the Japanese succeeded in mating their escape. Latest news at Tokio, which is not of an official character, with regard to the slese of Port Arthur, announces that the Bnssian sarriioa is clearly becoming very -much disheartened, and unauthorised surrenders are increasing in frequency. The operations for clearing the entrance of the harbour have now ceased.
