POLICE COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M.) Drunkenness: Four first offenders Were fined 5/ for drunkenness. A Football Enthusiast: James Downty was charged with using threatening behaviour opposite the Royal Hotel in Victoria-street last night. The constable said that the man was amongst the crowd which awaited the coming and passing of the English footballers outeide the hotel, and he was "looking for trouble." Hp energetically sought, it by erpiing fiercely, and ended by going up to a man and smiting him spveral timps. A constable then arrested him. The actWd strenuously denied the had behaviour, alleging that the man he struck, one Charles McGeehan, was a PWBonal friend, and the blows were friendly. He sought an adjournment 80 that hp might find this witnpss. and His Worship granted it till two o'nloek The Court sat specially to hear the case "to afternoon, but there was no appearance of the accused, and he was tow £2 or in default seven days. Alleged Perjury: Thomas Kcenan w»s charged with committing perjury in the Magistrate's Court on August 12 by Wearing that on August 2 at Newmarket he placed a hortlp on the ground "ear or behind an iron fenrp. Mr. *% appeared for the amispd. and wnsented to the adjournment asked for »y the police till Monday next. Bail r* aUowed in two sureties of £25 or ""e of £50.
Maintenance.—An order for the 1 Wment of 3/ a week towards his illepiimate child waa made against Wal»L. ke on the application of the JMer, Eliza Waldron. Several other *s came before the Magistrate, but «re adjourned for a month or more cou t the defendants to keep an acfm.il their earnings and expenses m ">e Court to see.
