Cunningham, Defouriere, and Co., Ltd., one of tbe largest fruit preserving and . canning firms in the United Kingdom, has been appointed canning expert to .the New Zealand Government. In ! its selection of a canning expert the Government hopes that fruit growers will be taught the advisableness of preserving and tuning the products of their orchards either for private consumption or export. In the South Island particularly fruit in immense quantities is allowed to go to waste when, with a little trouble and expense, it could be put to good account and bring in a satisfactory revenue to growers. It will be the special mission of Sir Jacques to educate orchardists up to tMs fact. Mr. Jacques is well versed in fruit, fish, and vegetable preserving and canning, so, all things considered, he should prove a wise choice. His age is about 45 years.
