Nelson Bros.; open class seeds, Messrs Williams and Kettle ; md Land and Mercantile. STE JOSEPH WARD ON "SOCIALISM." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. Sir Joseph Ward opened the combined traffic and railway bridge on the Riversdale Switzers line yesterday. A banquet was held in the „ evening and attended by settlers and several members of Parliament, including Messrs Millar, McNab and McKenzie. In the course of an address Sir Joseph Ward said that in America every telegraph line, telephone service and railway was in the hands of private companies, who amassed millions by the use or abuse of those services. Was it not something to the advantage of the people that they should have these great State services? If the ownership of these institutions was Socialism, then Socialism was a great thing for thi3 country. Here they were drawing a line at the passing over the border of Socialism in its true sense, which was a mild form of anarchy. He did not think any Administration would allow these public assets to pass from the people, and all would do their utmost to prevent the colony from being drawn into anarchy or extreme social doctrines injurious to the people. A SAWMILL DESTROYED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Campbell Timber Co.'s Rikiorangi, close to the Manawatu railway line, was burned down last night.
