The barque Emily Whitney, which wa3 picked up dismantled off Sydney Head 3 and towed into port, was bound from Newcastle to San Francisco. Sue ran into a terrific hurricane shortly after quitting Newcastle. Her masts came down when the storm was at its height, and during the night the vessel was covered with wreckage. The boats were also swept away. When daylight came a seaman was found to be missing, anct it is supposed he was lost overboard from aloft at the time the spar 3 cam* down.
