In the Wrong Place: Mary Wakeham. who pleaded guilty to the third charge of drunkenness within six months, said she came to town to go to the hospital ■with an injured knee, but was overcome by a 'few glasses, and found herself in the watch-house She was fined £1 and costs or a week's imprisonment. A first offender, who pleaded not guilty and blamed a lame leg for staggering, was fined 5/ and costs. Charge Against a Boy: Robert Edward Collins, aged nine, was remanded until Monday on bail charged with the theft of carpenters' tools, valued 12/2, from Leslie Moore and Walter Bunch. Disorderly Drunkard:. Edward Henry Bennett pleaded not guilty to being disorderly while drunk in Queen street, damaging Constable Cox's shako to the extent of 4/ -and a cab window to the value of 6/6. The constable said that Bennett struck him violently on the head and damaged a new shako. He was violent in the cab. and during his struggles smashed a window. Bennett said the cab need not have been taken, and the constable replied that the defendant told him at the time that he wished people to see him being locked up. Bennett admitted struggling in the cab, as he did not think a cab was needed, but the damage must have been done accidentally. He was fined £ 1 and costs for being drunk and disorderly, and 10/ for damaging the shako, being also ordered to pay the damage to the window and shako.
