CHRISTMAS BOXES.

(To the Editor.) Fir, —Seeing that the "festive season", will be upon us again next week, the thousjht occurred to mc whilst journeyitiet by tram this morning that if nny class of employees deserves a Xinas box, surely it would be the motor men conductors. The former, we must admit, arc a careful, vigilent, and attentive -lot of young fellows, having not only the charge of intricate and expensive properly, but also the lives of thousands of the travelling public. During the twelve months we have had the privilege a7I J pleasure to travel by the new electric tram service scarcely a single accident h;;s occurred through carelessness or negligence, and when we consider the constant strain on the attention and alertness of the motor men, exposed to all weather, we must give

thnra due credit. The conductors, likewise, prove a quiet, energetic, and courteous body of young men, whose patience and temper must oftfni be put to the test. Now. whilst we, the travelling public, are looking forward to a few days' recreation during the Xmas and New Year holiday season, the above public servants will be hard pressed all through; consequently. I believe if a Christmas box subscription list be startoJ. say. froTr. a shilling upwards, lr>ss than one week's, saving on the old 'bus service, it will be generally and most heartily responded to. The small amount will not. be missed by anyone individually, whilst the aggregate number will realise sufficient to afford a very acceptable and deserving present to each one indicated. Trusting, sir, this suggestion will meet with the approval of the press and the public generally.—l am, etc., R. BURROW.
