FOUR DAYS UNDER A CORPSE.
An old man was discovered In a house in Liverpool on August 6th, lying at the foot of the staircase under the dead body of his wife, and died in Brownlow Hill Workhouse Hospital two days later from exhaustion and shock. His name was William Shortis, He was rather diminutive In stature, while his wlf? was of robust proportions. Both were sixty-eight yoars of age.
A married daughter and her husband visited the house on the Thursday night, bat as they could not obtain admission, entrance was gained by a policeman through the cellar.
At the bottom of the stairs lay both the old people. Mrs Shortls was dead. Her neck was through falling backwards, tinned underneath her decomposed body, exhausted through want of food and suffering from shock, lay the helpless husband. He still breathed, but when relieved from a position which It was presumed he had occupied for four days was too weak to make a statement.
