VILLAGE TRAGEDY.
WELSH MADMAN RTABS HIS WIFE
A dreadful tragedy took place at the little village of Llangaln, near Pwllhell, Wales, on Wednesday, August 5 when a veterinary surgeon named William D. Evans, formerly an ipmate of an asylum, stabbed hla wife to death with a pocket knife, and attempted to murder another woman and child. He was prevented from doing further mischief, however;' by the remarkable resource and courage of a young woman.
Mrs Evana was walking In the front garden with her Wttle son, when her husband met her with an open pocket knife In his hand, and without a word rushed at her. The boy, aged twelve, tried to defend his mother, and was badly cut about the hand, bat Evans was able to accomplish hiq design and stabbed his wife to the heart.
The poor woman reeled forward, and leaned for a few moments on the shoulder of her murderer. Then she rose and walked with firm steps Into the farmhouse, taking her little son with her. The murderer essayed to follow, but he was met by Miss Owen.
On entering the kitchen Mrs' Evans, who was bleeding profusely, fell and died almost immediately.
Meanwhile Evans had gone to the back of the farm, where Mrs Owen and a child were sitting. tie was brandishing the knife and telling them, "I shall kill you all," when Miss Owen, armed with a broom, appeared and fiercely attacked the murderer. Cowed by her boldness he turned and ran down f the road with the knife mill in his hand.
