HEAT ENDURANCE OF CHINESE.
Chinese firemen seem to be immune to -the fierce heat of the stoke-hole on ocean steamers, and can stand up to temperatures that would speedily proetrnte white men. On ocean express steamers these last lay off every fchardtrip to recuperate,'and have to get the very best food, and large quantities of it, buit a Ohiwan-mn will eat a quart or two of rice and hold his position in front of a forced draught thait sweepe the coal off his shovel so eoom as it is presented >a>t the open door. Sbill, we think that there is little chance of the "Chimee" outdoing the white man in staking. Tor they lack the needful intelligence and skill.
