THE VETERANS' HOME.

His Excellency the Governor met the executive of the Veterans' Home bazaar yesterday, and discussed details with it. A programme committee of Mrs Bedford (president), Miss O'Neill, and Mr Crombie was appointed. The executive resolved to appeal for gifts of produce for the bazaar in various country districts. Arrangements were also ordered to be made for the making of a huge Christmas cake, which would be sold by the slice at the bazaar. The Governor announced that Lord Northland would conduct a ladies' hat stall at the bazaar. The Countess of Ranfurly- had presented a prize, and Lord Northland a second prize, for hats which should be trimmed in the best taste by amateurs. The conditions are that the names of competitors must be in the hands of Lord , Northland at Wellington by October 15; that the hats will become the property of the stall for sale at the bazaar; and the names of competitors must be sewn inside tho bats. The judge will be an expert, and the deliverance of the judge must r*e accepted as final. A second competition will be held for the best hat presented by ladies but not trimmed by amateurs. Ladies are. asked to note that the bazaar is held a short time before, the Auckland summer races. His Excellency told the committee that the bazaar was going to be the biggest thing of the sort ever attempted in the colony.
