SALVATION ARMY.-SALE OF WORK.

The Newton Corps of the Salvation Army opened a sale of work in their "barracks, Ponsonby-road, last night, to assist • the rescue and missionary work of the organisation. An interesting collection of stalls, well laden with pretty and useful goods, mainly needlework, was presided over by ladies and gentlemen, effectively representing various nationalities, the stalls being as follows:—England, Mrs Adjutant Goldfinch and Miss Hoare; Ireland, Mrs Marter and Miss Archer; South Africa, Mesdames Sayers, Moloney, and Church; Scotland, Ensign Duif, and her maternity home officers; and America, Mr and Mrs J. Church, and junior helpers. Mr Frank Coppell found business quite brisk in the huirdressing line. All the stalls were well patronised, the hall being crowded when tho sale was opened by Mr Wesley Spragg, who was accompanied by Mrs Spragg. The arrangements were under the superintendence of Adjutant Goldfinch, and a pleasing selection of choruses was given during the evening by Captain Laruberton, and a contingent of Onehunga Salvationists. In opening the proceedings Mr Spragg spoke of the effective methods pursued by the Salvation Army, and added that money entrusted to them for rescue work and helping the people was laid out in the best wav possible.
