CHRISTCHURCH, this day. John Wheatfield was committed for trial .this morning on a charge _of fraudulently selling goods included in a bill of sale for £20. Bail was allowed. HOKITIKA, this day. A young man, Albert Labes, a winchman'on the Greenstone Creek dredge, was caught in the gear early {his morning, and his left arm was torn off above the elbow, also all the flesh to the col-lar-bone. At sf special meeting this morning the Harbour Board decided to instruct its engineer to proceed with the preparation of plans for the dock at Te Aro. HAWEEA, this day. At Manaia a meeting against the New Plymouth Harbour loan proposals was addressed by Messrs Maxwell and McLean, members tof the Harbour Board. Resolutions antagonistic to proposals were passed, and a branch of the Harbour Defence League was formed. A meeting was also held at Kaponga for the same purpose. PALMERSTON X, this cfey.
