eve of his departure for Rome, express ad his sorrow at the Pope's illness, and the hope that he might be spared to the lioman Catholic Church and the Vvorld; "for all, no matter how much Ihey may differ in the forms of relig-
ion, must have reverence and esteem foi me who has so long and ably ruled over so large a proportion of the human race."
