In ' a letter written from Pretoria, dated lSth March, by Major G. R. Johnston, late Is I: and 7th N.Z. Regiments, he informs a friend in Napier that there are thousands"! of unemployed in that city, and that thousands of people are still flocking there. Absolutely no billets are to be found, and >,he writer sincerely regrets ever having left New Zealand, and warns colonials against proceeding to South Africa at present.
