The No. 2 Battalion Band (Thames) on Thursday presented Band-Sergt. Secretary O'Brien with a writing desk for services rendered. ' •

On Saturday on the Akarana R.C. range, the Engineers fired their annual match for the honour of holding the company's championship shield (presented by Hon. Capt. R. H. Abbott) for the year. The winner of the shield also takes a gold medal presented by Capt. Walker. At the same time handicap matches were shot for money prizes presented by Hon. Capt. Abbott by "A" and "B" classes. The conditions for the championship and "A" class handicap were two slghters and seven shots at 200, S(X) and COO yards; "8 ,, class, one sighter and ten shots at 200 and 500 yards. Sergt. Robinson won the medal, and becomes the holder of the shield for twelve months. Sergt. Robertson takes first prize in "A" class handicap, and Sapper Michell second. Sapper Cowbrick took first prize in "B" class, Corporal Butler second, and Bugler McGregor third.
