FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.

Tlie Fire Brigades' Demonstration opened to-day in beautiful weather. Although no holiday is being observed there is a large attendance. Some delay occurred at the commencement owing to many formalities, but a start was made at about ten with the hose and hydrant event, five men, for which forty-two teams entered. After several of the teams bad run, the water main in Thackeray-street burst, and further delayed the proceedings, but while repairs were being effected, the manual event was gone on with-
