HARVEST FESTIVALS.
Harvest thanksgiving services were held in a number of the churches yesterday. At ( St. Paul's the Rev. Canon Nelsin conducted two special services, basing his discourses on suitable texts. At the morning service the anthem "Harvest Hymn" was sung, the solo part being taken by Master G. Garland. In the evening the anthem "Praise Ye the Lord" was rendered, and Mr Frank Graham sang as an offertory solo "Be Thou Faithful Unto Death" (Mendelssohn). A children's service was held at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The church was tastefully decorated with grain, fruit, and floweis. At St. David's Presbyterian Church the Rev. W. Gray Dixon deliveied appropriate sermons, there being very large attendances at both seivices. The church was decorated with grain, fruit, foliage, and flowers. Iv the evening _ strong choir rendered the anthem "Ya Shall' Dwell in the Lord." At the Mount Eden Congiegational Church the Rev. W. Day preached in the morning on "An Oldtime Harvest Field," and in the evening on "God's Winnowing," large congregation. ■ attending each service. At the Newton Congregational Chruch special services were held, the preachers being Messrs O. Aldridge, J. Lock, and E. Wood, A atvovt choir, assisted by nn orchestra under tn« coiiductorship of Mr W, E. Baxter.
