CHRISTCHURCH CRIMINAL SESSIONS.

The criminal sessions opened this morning. The calendar was long, but there were no crimes of, particular importance. William Murphy, for the theft of a horse, wras admitted to probation for six months. William Coleman, on a charge of breaking and entering a house at Halkett and stealing an article of the value of £7 10/, and also on three charges of bicycle stealing, was sentenced to eighteen months', concurrent, for each offence. James Kerr was sentenced to twelve months, and Arthur Torr to three months, for assaulting and rohbing an old man on February Gth.

Tlie Supreme Court opened to-day before Judge Edwards. Th's calendar comprises nine charges agairst twelve persons, the most serious being that in which T. F. Moore and Mary Ann Mills are charged with murder at Waipawa. John Magill, arraigned on two charges of arson, was found not guilty on tho ground of insanity, and was ordered to be detained during tbe pleasure of the Colonial Secretary. Mibflka Poune, for theft of a bicycle, got two years' imprisonment.
