NORTH SHORE YACHT CLUB.
The North Shore Yacht Club sailed the last of a series of races on Saturday afternoon. The weather was favourable, a south-west to southeily breeze blowing. Li all the races the keenest interest whs evinced, particularly so in the race for motor yachts. The Ferry Company s steamer Eagle, crowded with members, their friends, and a large number of the general public, followed the launches round the course. The Rum, Volunteer, Viking, Durham, and a number of other vessels also went round. The yacht Ladye Wilma was flagship, and was moored between V ictoria Wharf aud Calliope Dock. The officers Of the day were Messrs J. Dunning, H Oliver, and W. A. Wilkinson. The hue flag method of starting the races, initiated ou Regatta Day, was adopted by the club, and proved an unqualified success. The results of the racing are as follow: Yachts, 26ft linear rating and under: Entries laud handicaps—Matua scratch, Wairere 2m, Janet 4m. Course: Prom flagship, round first buoy round North Head, thence round mark in Hobson's Bay, thence round markboat Off Queen-street Wharf, finishing at flagship; twice round. Distance, 13 miles.—The race was started at ten minutes to three. The first boat away was Janet', followed by Matua and Wairere. Janet passed the North Head fully a minute and a-half ahead of the Matua, which was only a few seconds .ahead of Wairere. The same order was maintained on the return, Matua and Wairere having considerably reduced the distance between the leading boat. Near the Ilobson's Bay mark Wairere and Matua went ahead of Janet, Wairere-being lm 10s ahead of Matua, and Janet 50see behind the latter. Matua further increased her lead on the second round, and Wairere drew further away from Janet. The finish was: Wairere, 5h 49m 15s; Matua, 5h 49m 41s; Janet, 5h 53m 15s. On time allowance Wairere is first, Janet second, and Matua third. The seasou's record in this class is: Matua. 9 points; Wairere, 7; Janet, G. Matua thus win's Mr Jenny's trophy.
Yachts, not exceeding 25ft 1.w.1: Entries and handicaps—Corinna scratch, Peri 6m, Tangaroa Bm, Hetty 11m, Ofa 15m. Course: Same as' last race.—Hetty was a non starter, as her owner was dissatisfied with the handicapping. Peri crossed through the line first, theu Corinna, Ofa and Tangaroa, in that order. Peri lead to the North Head, but was shortly afterwards passed by Corinna, whk-h boat increased her lead on the return journey. On the second round Peri drew closer on the leading boat. The finish was: Corinua, 6h 3m 40s: Peri, Gh 4m 425; Tangaroa, 6h 7m 30s. Peri Is first, Tangaroa second, and Corinna third on time allowance. The position in this class for the season is: Tangaroa and Peri a tie with 8 points each for the- Ferry Co.'s trophy, necessitating a sail oyer; Corinna, with six points, is third.
Motor Launch Race: Entries and handicaps—Queen of Beauty (30 horse power), scratch; Naomi 11. (18), 4m; Union (10), 7m; Tokatea (16), 7Jm; Naomi I. (8), 10im; Waitiri (10), 11m; Gladys (6), 12m; Billy Richardson (4), 15& m; Te Aute (3), 16m; Rosebud (3), 162 m; Stanley (6), 18m; Pioneer (3), 18m; Happy Moments (1), 22m; May (1), 30m; Annie (1), 30m; Century (1), 30m. Course: From flagship thence inside (north side) red sandspit buoy, thence round R.N.Z.Y.S. buoy, oft' Bastion, thence Inside (south, side) mark' boat off Hobson's Bay, thence round mark boat off Queenstreet wharf, and back to starting line. Six knot's. May, Century and Pioneer did not start. The handicaps were given at the start, and every credit is due to the starter, Mr W. A. Wilkinson, for the prompt manner in which the boats were got away. When the scratch boat, the Queen of Beauty crossed the line, the limit boat (Annie, 30s) was off Orakei on the return up the harbour. Waitiri retired after rounding the Bastion mark. Queen of Beauty was not long in overhauling the other boats. She passed Naomi 11. off Campbell's Point. Shortly afterwards the latter boat retired. The Queen of Beauty continued to make the pace very fast. Having passed all launches except Billy Richardson, the scratch boat set out in chase after her. The little boat, however, was making good headway, and passed the winning post a few seconds in the lead. The finishing times were: Billy Richardson, 5h 3m 10s; Queen of Beauty, 5h 3m 555; Tokatea, 5h 4m 30s; Naomi 1., 5h 4m 345; Union, 5h 4m 355; Te Aute, 5h 6m 10s; Annie, oh 6m 10s; Gladys, sft 9m 10s; Happy Moments, 5h 11m 15s; Stanley, 5h 16m; Rosebud, 5h 16m 30s.
