NEW ZEALAND RIFLE MEETING.
WELLINGTON, this day
In the programme for the Defence Forces'. Rifle Association meeting, to be held at Trenthani in March, .the clause urder the heading- "Rifles," stating that members of corps -or rifle clubs must use the weapons with which the corps or club is armed, applies only to those corps armed with carbines. Members of rifle clubs may use the Martini-Enfield or the LeeEnfield, but all weapons must be issued by the New Zealand Government. Formerly eight matcnes counted for the championship, but this number has now been reduced to five—the Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury, and Otago 'matches—and the remainder are all service matches. Several of the competitions are designed to b<? of- special practical utility, and under this heading comes the snap-shooting and the covermatch. In both the target is a head and shoulders at 300 and 500 yards respectively, which will be exposed four seconds for the snap-shooting, and be stationary for the cover match, in which the time allowed for competitors to rise, fire, and get behind cover again is three ! seconds. :
