VOLUNTEER NOTES.
Members of the Akarana Rifle Club competed at Avondale on Saturday for the marble clock given for the "A" Class by Messrs A. Buckland and Sons, and the gold medal given by the "B" Class by Mr E. T. Buchanan. The ranges were 300, GOO and 700 yards. The clock was won by Mr W. Cox, and the medal by Mr E. Pollard, a former winner. Air Pollard in this match put up a score which entitled him to a special prize given by Mr J. Adams, being the first to compile more than 62 points in a sevenshot match at 300 and 700 yards. The scores were as follows: —"A" Class: Mr W. Cox, 94; Mr W. Phillips, 88; Mr J. J. Buchanan, 87; Mr W. Greenshielas, 86; Mr G. Spin ley, 85; Mr M. Atkinson, 85; Mr J. D. Webster, 84; Mr H. Doughty, 81; Mr A. Henderson, 82; Mr J. Carlsen, SI; Mr M. Tobin, 78; Mr E. Buchanan, 78; Mr W. H. Shepherd, 76; Mr J. H. Langley, 74; Mr P. McCarthy, Tl; Mr Maughan, 63; Mr G. H. Palmer, 56. "B" Class: Mr E. Pollard, 90; Mr R, Aylett, 82; Mr J. Anderson, SO; Mr A. G. Cooke, 73; Mr E. Madden, 68; Mr R. G. Pearse, 67; Mr W. T. Cole, 63; Mr A. Letham, SS; Mr J. Adams, SS; Mr Robertson, 52; Mr Jones, 28; Mr Evans, 28.
The Thames No. 1 Rifles fired the second round for Mr MeCulloug-h's prizes on Saturday, at 500 and 600 yards, when the highest scores were the following:— First Class: Sergt. Crosbie, S4; Private Brown, 81; Sergt. Pearse, 72; Sergt. Sftraggon. 71. Second Class: Private Causley, 75; Private Kummert, 74; Private Lucey, 6S; Private Curtis, 61. Third Class: Private Kerr. 73; Private Ladner, 51; Private Cameron, 50. As a result of the two competitions Sergt. Crosbie leada in the first class by 10 points, Private Causley in the second class by 10 points, and Private Ladner in the third by 11 points. ,
