WELLINGTON, this day.
Sub-Inspector Mitchell, at present •stationed at Auckland; is to be placed in charge of Southland, which is to be formed into a separate police districts and wiil be promoted to the rank of an Inspector of police. P6w officers in the force have had such rapid advancement as Sub-Inspector Mitchell, and hi£ most recent promotion is well deserved.
