A great portion of this comparatively waterless country ias been opened for selection and tEere is much need 6f water during the dry season of the year. STATE COAL MINE. It is probable that the management of the State coal mine will be placed in the fcands of Mr Hayes, inspecting engineer in the Mines Department. WAIHI SCHOOL OF MINES. A communication has been received by the Government from the president Of the Waihi School of Minea urging the necessity for a small experimental crushing plant being attached to the school, which, it is estimated, can be erected at a cost of £1000. Mr Gilmour has been infonmed that the Government cannot undertake to furnish every school of mines with an experimental plant, but if the persons interested in the esta/blishment of a plant at Waibi are prepared to raise half the required ambiiiit the Minister will favourably consider the propriety of granting a subsidy at the rate of & for £ upou the total cost of the plairt.
