PARNELL.

The •fortnight?/ meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers. Mnmiknu Rd., last evening. The Mayor (Mr Hugh Campbell) presided, and there were also present: — Messrs R. s. Erlggs. 11. c. Tewsley, J. Gilmour, H. 11. Brook, E. W, G. Rathbone, J. Thomas, J. Petford, G. Cozens.

New Member.—Mr J. Slater, the nfwly elected member, replacing Mr J. Fitt, made the usual declaration and took his seat in the Council.

Infectious Diseases Hospital. — The Counc'l formally agreed to the resolutions passed at the conference of local bodies, regarding the erection of a hospital tur infectious diseases.

Finance.—Accounts amounting 'to £G3 16/ were passed for payment. Tramways—On the recommendation of the Streets Committee, permission was granted tn the Tramway Company to lay the conduit pipes under the footpaths provided that satisfactory repairs were effected.

Water Supply.-The Turncock reported that the amount of water consumed during the past fortnight had been SS4 000 gallons.

M luomas stated that out of consideration for the retiring Mayor, and for the incoming Mayer ex - Councillor Pitt, those intending to resign bad determined to hold over their resignations until Wednesday next, after the installation of the new Mayor, and he therefore thought that Mr Gllmour's proposal should be held over until five new councillors had been elected to take their places. In reply to Mr Thomas, the Mayor said the .new councillors could not be elected in time for next meeting-. Mr Gilmour asked if, in the event of the resignations being received, the remaining councillors would be able to ftarry on the business of the Council. The Mayor thought that the Councillors holding office at the time would form a quorum. To prevent any doubt, the Mayor moved that the payment of salaries and wages be authorised.
