WELLINGTON NOTES.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day. Sir Henry Berkeley is here, en route to Hong Kong.
At a social given by the Clyde Qu_y Liberal and Labour Federation, Sir Joseph Ward strongly condemned the excessive rents charged for dwellings in the chief centres of the colony, causing hardship to the working classes and others. He spoke in favour of the State extending the railways to tbe suburbs, in order to reduce rates and provide access to working men's homes. The speech was very forcible, ably delivered, and warmly applauded.
