OPENING OP THE SEASON,
The championship matches under the auspices of the Auckland Football Association were commenced on Saturday on the Domain and at North Shore. In the senior competition United and North Shore defeated Grafton and V.M.C.A. respectively. United met Grafton on tbe Domain, United winning by four goals to one. For the winners. Meldrum was in fine form, and scored two goals. The losers lacked combination.
North Shore and V.M.C.A. met at Devonport. and after a well-fought game North Shore won by one goal to nil. Tlie issue was in doubt until near the end of the game, when J. Burgess scored. JUNIORS .
Pitt-street v. St. John's. — St. John's, who arc a new team, won this match by three goals to nil. Goals were scored by Halliwell (2) and Smith.
