DEVONPORT METHODIST CONCERT.

There was a good audience at the Foresters' I_all t Devonport, last evening, wnen a most enjoyable programme was givea in connection with the anniversary oi the Devonport Methodist Church. An efficient orchestra under Mr J. H. Phihpot played the opening selection. "Poet and Peasant," and later on rendered "The Mill in tne Black Forest" (Eilenberg) and "An Egyptian Patrol" (Lane). Miss Violet Mount was encored for her rendering of Mr Phillpot's setting of "Abide With Me," a-'id her solo, "Lo, Hear the Gentle Lark" (Bishop), with flute obligate by Mr Haswell, was much appreciated. Messrs Haswell. Gribbln and Phi'lpot, gave as an instrumental trio a skilful performance of Gill's "Serenade," and Messrs Palalret and Armstrong, with Dr.' Cox, also contributed an enjoyable item. Two items, sung by the Waiata Quartette, were warmly applauded by tho audience. A fine rendering of " The Holy City" was given by Mr Horace Stebbins. with orchestral accompaniment. Mr G. M Reid san?. " Oond-night, Beloved " (Balfe). and Miss Mary Lalng sang "Tho. r,ost Chord " (-Sullivan.. and "Out on the Rocks." A capital violin solo was given by Dr. Cox. The accompaniments were played by Messrs Bartley, Phlllpot and Armstrong.
