ARBITRATION COURT.

ALLEGED BREACHES OF AWARD

AT WAIHI.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, this day,

At the request of the Labour Department, the President of the Arbitration Court has decided that the Court shall proceed to Auckland, sitting- there on May 19, for the purpose of hearing alleged breaches of the award made by the Court in relation to the Waihi miners. The matter is said to be one of urgency. The Arbitration Court yesterday commenced the hearing of a dispute filed by the Wellington Grooms and Conductors' Union against the City Council. This case concerns tire city tramways, and has been referred directly to the Court by the Corporation. The demands ask the Court to fix 46 hours as a week's work, the time of starting work to be at the discretion of the employer, with a stipulation that the day's work shall be continuous (meal hours excepted). A minimum weekly wage of £2 8/ is asked for competent grooms, muckers-out, and general stable hands; £3 for night watchmen, and £1 15/ for conductors, with an increase of 2/6 per month until £2 5/ is reached. During the evidence it i was stated that if the demands for j conductors were granted they would j involve an extra expenditure of £1500 per annum. i
