GOVERNMENT HOUSE FESTIVITIES.

THE NAVAL BALL,

AVONDALE RACING

THE LAST OF THE TENTH,

SPECIAL MAIL NUMBER OF THE

"GRAPHIC."

One of the most striking pictures that has been published is the large double-page painting of the interior of the ballroom of Government House during the dance last week. The scene depicted is the third figure of the Lancers, when the order "Ladies in the centre" makes one of the prettiest of groupings in that favourite dance. The picture is beautifully executed, the likenesses being clearly recognisable. Another full-page sketch of the ballroom by another artist is also a striking feature. The issue contains the list of invited guests, and a very full description of the dresses worn.

The Autumn Meeting of the Avondale jockey Club is being well patronised, and the improvements to the course, now one of the most up-to-date in the colony, have been much admired. The "Graphic" makes a feature of the meeting.

The departure of the Tenth Contingent from; Wellington was also the occasion of the Premier's leave-tak-ing. The issue of the "Graphic" gives a number' of pictures of the event, and prominence is given to Mr Seddon's illustrated diary. "A Halcyon Cruise" depicts in charming views the events of a cruise northward in one of the finest of Auckland pleasure yachts. The article and pictures should prove very interesting to yachtsmen and to their friends abroad. , In addition to the above features the issue contains many other pictures of local and general interest, which, together with the great variety of reading matter of all kinds, make the number one of the best.
